Library REF Support Teams

The Open Access Team together with the School, Departmental and Faculty libraries are working together to provide support to UoA chairs and administrators in preparation for REF 2021.

These contacts can assist UoA chairs and administrators with open access compliance reports, creation or updating of publication records in Symplectic Elements, and general publication support for REF 2021. These contacts may also be able to assist in the collection of evidence for impact case studies.

Contact details are available here (Raven protected).

For each REF submission, three distinct elements are assessed:  the quality of outputs (e.g. publications, performances, and exhibitions), their impact beyond academia, and the environment that supports research.  The REF Open Access Policy requires certain outputs (journal articles and conference proceedings published with an ISSN) to be made open access, in order to be eligible for submission.

The role of the Library REF Support Teams is to act as a communications node between the Open Access Team, School Library staff, and UoA administrators to support work across the University in ensuring outputs meet the open access criteria and are eligible for submission to REF. Support Teams are based on the School structure of the University, each School has allocated: one member of the Open Access Team, one or two Research Support Librarians, and the appropriate number of REF UoA administrative staff for the School. Together, they create a specific point of contact for each School at the library level, the UoA level, and the Open Access Team level.
